General Information On Share-Net Membership
Updated 15 October 2008

The Share-Net Plan 2008-2010 (available upon request) describes the mission, objectives and general activities of the network, as well as organisational issues re. steering, services, financial means and types of membership and their implications.

Types of membership

In brief, there are two types of members:

  • Institutional members (organisations) Membership contribution for a full year is according to income, see the attached contribution sheet.
  • Individual members (individuals, not transferable) Membership contribution for a full year is a fixed amount, see the attached contribution sheet.

Payment of membership contribution is due after receipt of an invoice.

Membership period

Members are asked to commit themselves to membership in principle on a three-year basis.

Membership conditions

Those interested in membership are expected to familiarise themselves with the Share-Net Framework and website-information. Written requests for membership should express endorsement of the network's mission and objectives as stated in the Framework. Approval shall be reviewed by the Steering Group.

Membership benefits

Members are expected to be interested in joining the network in order to advance its mission and objectives, in view of what they themselves may contribute as well as the services and other benefits they may receive. Also, while several services are for members only, other activities and benefits are open to non-members as well. This reflects our philosophy of forming an inclusive network for information sharing, expertise exchange, and increased collaboration.

After formalisation of membership new members:

  • will be included in the list of members as published on the website page, including (if applicable) the organisation's SRH and HIV/AIDS profile;
  • will receive the latest issue of the Share-Net Bi-weekly and all subsequent issues, which is sent out every week with information on Share-Net activities and other events in the field of SRH and HIV/AIDS, new resources etc.;
  • are invited to submit items for publication in the Share-Net Bi-weekly by emailing them to the Coordinator;
  • are offered to become an active member of one or more working groups;
  • will receive invitations for discussion meetings and other events organised by Share-Net, including the Annual Meeting of members. These are conducted in English. However, many meetings are also open to non-members;
  • are invited to attend the annual Members' Meetings and participate in any decision-making that will occur at these meetings;
  • are eligible to volunteer to serve on the Steering Committee, participation in which is ultimately decided by a vote of the membership.
